From Arkansas State University
Arkansas State University women's soccer player Loren Mitchell has been selected as the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for her outstanding performance over the weekend.
Mitchell, a 5-6 sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., also garnered honorable mention honors from CollegeSoccer360.com for her play.
Mitchell enjoyed a three-goal weekend to help the Red Wolves clinch a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season and also clinch a winning record in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history.
She scored two goals against Western Kentucky as A-State handed the Lady Toppers their first conference loss of the season. It was Mitchell's second multi goal game of the year as she scored her first goal on a header off a free kick in the 69th minute and then added another just three minutes later to quell any comeback attempt for the Lady Toppers.
Against Georgia State, the sophomore forward scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give A-State the 3-2 victory. The goal was her 11th of the season, which leads the Sun Belt Conference and her 26th point of the year. The goal was also her fourth game-winning goal of the year; a mark is tied for the most in the conference and the second most in school history in a single-season.
She is the first A-State women's soccer player to be honored by CollegeSoccer360.com.
A-State will conclude the regular season Sunday, Oct. 27 at Texas State. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
