JPD: Gaming devices found at Jonesboro VFW

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- The commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1991 in Jonesboro was cited Thursday for having gaming devices at the post.

Jonesboro Police Department received a tip that illegal gambling was taking place at the VFW

JPD told Region 8 the post having a liquor license allows them to search the facility without a search warrant.

"Our PROWL unit, the Jonesboro Prowl received a tip that there was some type of gaming going on at the VFW club," said Sgt. Doug Formon with JPD.

Once inside, Formon said they mainly found pull tabs.

"Some cash was found along with some other evidence that was seized," Formon said. "That did show some type of pull tab some type of game of chance was taking place there at the club."

Formon said after they received the tip they contacted the Alcohol Beverage Control.

"It happened about a week ago," Formon said. "A date was set up which was yesterday to go into the club and see what's going on as far as illegal gambling."

Formon said the manager that oversees the VFW was cited to court on a misdemeanor charge and will be in court late next week.

Formon said the investigation has been turned over to the ABC.  We reached out to commander Jerry Smith with the VFW and he said he did not have a comment.
