Mayor says partnership, concerned neighbors reduced crime rates

Mayor Greg Fischer Mayor Greg Fischer

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said the city is following through on a comprehensive plan to reduce violence after the chaos of the May 2012 shootings that left three people dead in Louisville's west end.

In October 2012 Metro Louisville teamed up with Safe Neighborhoods, a civic group dedicated to reducing violent crime around the country. One year later, Fischer said crime is down in the city thanks to dozens of programs and partnerships aimed at preventing young people from becoming criminals.

Fischer said the positive numbers  are a result of city leaders and concerned neighbors taking action.

To continue the positive trend Fischer said it will take a comprehensive and sustainable approach with everyone committed to solving the problem.
