NEWPORT, AR (KAIT)-- The body of a Jonesboro man who died while in police custody has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy.

Anthony Maurice Reeves, 37, was in custody at the Jackson County Detention Center when he suffered a heart attack Sunday night.

According to Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas, jailers discovered Reeves in cardiac arrest around 7:15 p.m.

Detention center personnel began CPR and notified the Newport Ambulance Service, Lucas stated in a news release.

Reeves was then taken to the Harris Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m.

Jackson County Coroner Cris Driver was contacted and Reeves' body was taken to a local funeral home.  It will be sent to Little Rock for an autopsy.

Lucas said the case remains under investigation.

Reeves had been extradited from the Craighead County Sheriff's Office around 10 a.m. Sunday for an outstanding warrant on a charge of failing to comply with a court order.
