ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

After a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested two Angelina County residents for possession of methamphetamine late Sunday night.

The female suspect was also allegedly found to be in possession of counterfeit cash. Further charges may be pending against Amber Nicole Humphries, 31, of Lufkin.

Humphries and Steven Michael Smith, 32, of Pollok, are both still being held in the Angelina County Jail, and each person was charged with second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance between 200 and 400 grams. Each suspect's bail was set at $100,000.

According to Trooper David Hendry, a DPS spokesman, after a DPS trooper stopped Humphries' vehicle on U.S. Highway 59 for a traffic violation, he ran a driver's license check on her and found that she had multiple driver's license suspensions. She was arrested at the scene for driving with an invalid license.

After the DPS trooper identified the passenger as Smith, he allegedly spotted a clear plastic bag containing a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine was observed next to the passenger seat. Smith was taken into custody for possession of controlled substance.

The trooper contacted DPS Narcotics, and a more detailed search of the vehicle turned up a plastic bottle under the passenger seat, which also had a substance believed to be meth.

After Humphries and Smith were transported to the Angelina County Jail, Humphries allegedly admitted to having additional contraband hidden on her person. Authorities discovered that she was in possession of counterfeit money.

A total of54.3 grams of meth was seized in the bust.
