Man charged with stealing $100K in jewelry from grandmother

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A grandmother's home was broken into and her jewelry stolen, and Rossford Police say her own grandson is the suspect.

Police say 21-year-old William "Billy" Wesley broke a window in order to gain access to his grandmother's house on Marilyn Drive. He walked away with nearly $100,000 in jewelry and whatever else he could carry. He stashed some of the stolen property at his home and the rest in a vacant house.

The police say it was Wesley's odd behavior that tipped them off. They say he arrived at the crime scene at the same time as police and pretended not to know about the burglary.

"[Thieves] take someone's personal belongings usually so they can be resold," said Police Chief Glenn Goss. "My guess would be for money."

Wesley has been charged with felony second-degree burglary. The stolen property was returned to his grandmother.
