Corrigan's Youth Overcomers host event for community

CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) -

Schools all over EastTexas celebrated Red Ribbon week last week, but there are still schools celebratingthe drug free week this week. One of those is Corrigan- Camden IndependentSchool District and the Youth Overcomers group. The two held a meeting forstudents and parents tonight at Corrigan Elementary School.

The event featured a skit about why it isimportant to live drug free and a special demonstration by the Corrigan PoliceDepartment and their drug dog, Lei.

"We want to educate theparents to take more notice of the children," YO President Joe Walker said. "Theirattitude and things they are doing at home. We just want to catch theirattention when it comes down to drugs and alcohol."

The group is a collaborationbetween the schools and faith based counselors.

    SPC. Steven Tyler Redmon would have turned 26 years old on May 28, 2018. His mother will pass out cupcakes at the fifth annual memorial roping event to remember him. The benefit raises money to provide for mental health counseling at the ASU Beck PRIDE Center for America's Wounded Veterans.
