CORNING, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Department of Health held one of its mass flu clinics on Thursday in Corning. For small towns like Corning, their services help patients in more ways than just protecting them from the flu.

"We have a lot of people in the rural areas that come in," said Director of Corning Community Center Judy Phelan. "A lot of the people that come in here during our flu shot days are people I've never seen before."

Each year the clinic's usually see quite a crowd. Even during Thursday storm's people were still coming in.

"I was worried with the bad weather that there wouldn't be a lot of people showing up, but so far we've had a steady string of people this morning," said Phelan.

For Edna Roark, the locations of some of these mass clinics make it easier for her to get to.

"I think they're important because when you get old you can't drive long distances," said Roark. "I have to go to the closest place to get my flu shots, so I think it's great."
