NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man has been arrested after allegedly setting a fire near an apartment complex.

Police say they spotted 40-year-old Mark Mitchell pouring gasoline all over a tree and wood mulch right next to the parking structure for the Capitol Towers apartments downtown.

The fire was lit and erupted in flames before police could take Mitchell down.

Police say Mitchell used fire as a deadly weapon, putting the building's 350 residents in danger.

Mitchell allegedly told police he copes with the loss of loved ones by setting things on fire.

He has been charged with aggravated arson.

The fire was put out before it could reach any of the cars inside the parking structure nearby.
