Man and teen arrested after Searcy robbery

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) – A man and a teenager were arrested after a robbery at a convenience store in Searcy.

Searcy police responded to the Valero gas station on South Benton Sunday night in reference to a robbery. According to the news release, police were told two male suspects came into the store wearing hoodies and bandanas over their faces around 10:45 p.m. They entered store with handguns and demanded money.

Witnesses told police the two ran from the business with an undisclosed amount of cash stuffed inside a drawstring bag.

One of the suspects identified as Carlos Anton Mellon, 28, of Searcy was found under a bridge during a search of the area. According to police, an officer chased Mellon who had a gun in his hand. Mellon was taken into custody after trying to get into a nearby home.

A 14-year-old boy was also arrested after police say he was trying to get into Kroger on Race Street. Officers then found the drawstring bag in a trash can at the grocery store.

Mellon was taken to the White County Jail and was charged with aggravated robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and theft by receiving. His bond was set at $100,000 and he will appear in court on January 7.

The teen was taken to the White River Juvenile Center in Batesville. He was charged with aggravated robbery. His name was not released.
