Man and teen arrested after Searcy robbery

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) –A man and a teenager were arrested after a robbery at a convenience store inSearcy.

Searcy policeresponded to the Valero gas station on South Benton Sunday night in referenceto a robbery. According to the news release, police were told two male suspectscame into the store wearing hoodies and bandanas over their faces around 10:45p.m. They entered store with handguns and demanded money.

Witnesses toldpolice the two ran from the business with an undisclosed amount of cash stuffedinside a drawstring bag.

One of the suspectsidentified as Carlos Anton Mellon, 28, of Searcy was found under a bridgeduring a search of the area. According to police, an officer chased Mellon who had a gun in hishand. Mellon was taken into custody after trying to get into a nearby home.

A 14-year-old boywas also arrested after police say he was trying to get into Kroger on RaceStreet. Officers then found the drawstring bag in a trash can at the grocerystore.

Mellon was taken tothe White County Jail and was charged with aggravated robbery, felon inpossession of a firearm and theft by receiving. His bond was set at $100,000and he will appear in court on January 7.

The teen was takento the White River Juvenile Center in Batesville. He was charged withaggravated robbery. His name was not released.

    According to Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook, a body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy after the body was discovered this weekend in the Mississippi River.
