College Sports Madness names Qushaun Lee SBC Defensive Player of the Week
JONESBORO (AStateRedWolves.com) – Arkansas State junior linebacker Qushaun Lee (Prattville, Ala.) has been named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Red Wolves' 17-16 road win over South Alabama last Saturday.
Lee recorded a career-high 16 tackles, including one tackle for loss, and a pass break-up against the Jaguars to earn the accolades from the online publication. Lee and the Red Wolves' defense held South Alabama to 75 yards under its total offense average and to its lowest scoring output this season.
Lee's previous career high was 15 tackles, and he has now posted double-figure stops in three consecutive games. He has posted at least 10 tackles in four games this season and seven times during his career.
He has a team-high 83 tackles, which is also ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference. Lee is averaging 10.4 tackles per game, the 15th best average in the nation, to put him on pace for 100 tackles for the second straight season. The last time an A-State player had at least 100 tackles in back-to-back seasons was 2002 and 2003 when linebacker Les Echols had 105 and 123, respectively.
The Red Wolves are currently 4-4 overall and 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference play. They return to action Saturday, Nov. 9, with a 6 p.m. game against Louisiana-Monroe at Malone Stadium.
