Easton Key leads ASU Fall Beach Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AStateRedWolves.com) – Hosting the ASU Fall Beach Classic at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club, the Arkansas State men's golf team completed the two-day tournament's opening 36 holes with a combined 582 to finish Monday's play tied for second place among 13 teams.

The Red Wolves, just two strokes behind leader West Florida, were led by Easton Key, who is currently in first place with a 6-under par 138.  Key holds a two-stroke advantage over second-place Esteban Castro of West Florida after recording a 70 and 68 for the first and second rounds, respectively.

A-State shot an opening-round 295 that put in a tie for third place and left it six strokes behind West Florida and Memphis.  However, the Red Wolves improved their score in the second round to a 287 that closed the gap on the Argonauts by four strokes.  A-State is currently tied for second place with Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Monroe.

Joining Key among the top five leaders for Arkansas State was Chance Holden, who finished the day tied for third place with a 3-under par 138 that included a low round of 69.  Also competing for the Red Wolves, Seth Garner is tied for 38th place with a 151, Landon Hearnes tied for 47th with a 154 and Matthew Loiacano tied for 57th with a 156.

A-State's Brayden Brown, Alex Hewitt and Christian Helmbold are all competing as individuals and are all tied for 52nd place with a 155.  The tournament's second and final round will be played Tuesday.
