JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Three men were arrested Sunday morning after police found guns and drugs when they pulled over a suspected stolen car from central Arkansas.
According to a Jonesboro police report, at around 2:30 a.m., an officer saw a car make an improper turn from Phillips drive onto Caraway. The car was pulled over at an alleyway by Dixie Café, after an officer saw a man digging around the car and constantly checking back.
Before getting out of his patrol car, Jonesboro dispatch told the officer the car was stolen. The officer walked to the car and told Antionette Tyus, 21, Anthony Walker, 28, and Chad Derrick, 25, to put their hands in the air.
In the report, the officer explains he could smell marijuana coming from inside the car. He ordered them to step out of the car and asked if they were carrying anything illegal. All three denied they were carrying anything illegal.
A second officer arrived at the scene and they both began to search the suspects. They found a half burnt marijuana cigarette in Walker's front pocket, a bag containing K2 spice in Tyus purse, and a handgun in a backpack that Derrick was seen messing with it.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office told Jonesboro police the car was stolen but the suspects said a friend let them borrow it in Pine Bluff so they could pick up a friend.
Tyus and Walker told police they met Derrick at the Electric Cowboy and were going to continue to hangout in their hotel room.
In the report, officers said Derrick's eyes were "bloodshot and watery" and his speech was "slurred".
Walker has a hold for parole violation and faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center in lieu of a $770 surety bond.
Tyus was arrested with a felony theft charge and a misdemeanor charge for possession of a controlled substance. She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center in lieu of a probable cause hearing.
When Derrick arrived at the Craighead County Detention Center he was searched again and the booking officer found orange amphetamine pills in his jeans. He faces felony charges for possession of a controlled substance and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms. Derrick also faces misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and carrying a weapon.
According to court documents, Derrick has been released from jail.
