GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A fallen soldier from the western Carolinas returned home from overseas on Tuesday night.

US Army Specialist Jason Shelton, 22, was flown into Greenville-Spartanburg Airport and then a procession will bring his body to its final resting place in Marshall, NC.

The ceremony at GSP included a flag line and plane side ceremony, which will be followed by the procession that will include the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol, North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the North Carolina and South Carolina Patriot Guard.

Shelton died in a training exercise in Germany while on active duty, according to a representative of the Patriot Guard.

A visitation and a flag line will take place on Nov. 7 for Shelton. The staging will be at 3:45 p.m. and visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall.
