The 2013-14 edition of the Blue Ribbon College Yearbook has picked the Arkansas State University men's basketball team to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) and named senior guard Brandon Reed to its preseason all-conference squad.
Arkansas State was tabbed third in the publication's preseason forecast behind Georgia State and Western Kentucky while Reed was one of five individuals to garnerpreseason All-SBC Team recognition.
Reed, a 2013-14 preseason all-league second-team selection and a transfer from Georgia Tech, was the Sun Belt Conference's Freshman of the Year in 2009-10 in his only season at A-State. He averaged a team-leading 15.1 points per contest and scored an A-State freshman record 469 points in 31 games en route to receiving second-team all-conference laurels. Reed would also earn National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 24 Second-Team honors and United States Basketball Writers of America All-District accolades. The 6-4, 182-pound backcourt player transferred to Georgia Tech where he registered two-year (2011-12 and 2012-13) career averages of 6.4 points (391 pts.), 2.9 rebounds (177 rebs.), and 1.2assists (75 assts.) in 61 outings for the Yellowjackets.
The publication also evaluated each NCAA Division I men's college basketball team and assigned grades to four key areas. The Red Wolves, under sixth-year head coach John Brady, earned an A grade for their backcourt and bench/depth while a grade of A- was assigned for A-State's frontcourt and intangibles.
