A-State Men's Golf finishes fifth at Fall Beach Classic

Arkansas State men's golf team shot a final-round 301 Tuesday at the
ASU Fall Beach Classic to complete the two-day tournament in fifth place
among 13 teams with a combined 883.
the tournament at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club, the Red Wolves
strokes behind fourth-place Louisiana-Lafayette and within five strokes
of third-place Memphis. West Florida claimed the tournament title with
an 868, while Louisiana-Monroe finished runner-up with an 876.
finished ahead of Louisiana Tech, UALR, Houston Baptist, Stephen
F. Austin, New Orleans,
Nicholls State, Murray State and North Dakota. The Red Wolves entered
Tuesday's round in a three-way tie for second place and just two strokes
behind West Florida. A-State opened the tournament Monday with a 295
that was followed by a 287, its best round
of the season.
Holden shot a 215, including a low round of 69, and placed fifth to
lead the Red Wolves.
Easton Key, who was responsible for the lowest round of the tournament
by an A-State player with a 68, was only one stroke behind at 216 to
competing for the Red Wolves, Matthew Loiacano finished tied for 36th
place with a 227 and
Seth Garner and Landon Hearnes both tied for 48th place with a 232.
A-State's Christian Helmbold, Alex Hewitt and Brayden Brown all played
as individuals, finishing tied for 53rd, tied for 56th and tied for 63rd
The Red Wolves return to action Feb. 17-18 at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas.
