It's a simple rule but carries much more weight than one might think. Especially for Jakori Edwards, this is what he does every morning at 8:15 during the announcements. His segment is just under 60 seconds but it's the message that has resonated with students to follow through.

It's part of a new program that incorporates rules from Jakori's book "The Essential 55", a guide to lead students on the path of success. For teacher Andrew Sadler it's a way to influence character.

"Its not what they do at home or at school that's important, we can direct them, its what they do when they're not around us," Sadler said.

The book helps students face difficult situations giving examples of proper etiquette while in public and how to become a better team player, a lesson Jakori learned quickly.

"Since I read this book it kind of has a change, like mostly what rule number 3 said, I was a sore loser and I used to get mad, but you know now I understand you should never be a sore loser, you should just try your best always," Jakori Edwards said.

School officials say the rules keep the learning process moving because the number of disruptions have decreased.

Sadler continues, "To me I think that's what every teacher looks for, reinforcement that whatever measure they are using is effective."

He also says this program has generated a new culture among students and its what he calls reverse peer pressure where students are encouraged to do the right thing, allowing them to achieve maximum success.
