JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – St. Bernards Medical Center held anevent Friday in honor of National Alzheimer's Awareness Month.
The St. Bernards Health and Wellness Center in Jonesborohosted a roomful of people for a 'lunch and learn' event focused on thisprevalent disease.
The event delved into topics related to Alzheimer's, adisease that affects more and more people as the population ages.
Brian Rega, the director of senior services for housing,said he wanted to touch on a few topics that he hoped would stick with peoplewhen they left.
"We're trying to get people to understand the differencebetween Alzheimer's and dementia," Rega said. "We'll talk about maybe some riskfactors. We're going to talk about a little bit of genetics. We're going totalk about real world situations of what they might be experiencing."
St. Bernards holds 'lunch and learn' events on variousmedical topics once a month. In December the hospital plans to educate peopleon healthy food options for the holidays.
