Residents gather for benefit to help Jones County law officer

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Many residents gathered in Jones County on Saturday to help and support a law officer.

A benefit for Lt. Tony Stiles was held at East Jones Elementary School from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The event included barbecue chicken plates, activities for kids, a live and silent auction as well as entertainment.

Dozens of residents, family members along with the Jones County Sheriff's Department participated and helped make the benefit possible.

“I would probably lose everything that I have if I didn't have this stuff like this coming in,” said Lt. Stiles.,” said Lt. Stiles. “All the way back from the beginning, I mean, it's been, it's been amazing.”

Lt. Stiles was shot several times and nearly died during a 12 hour standoff last July 29. On Saturday, friends continued to help and support him as he continues to recover.

“The bills continue to mount, but the people continue to come out and support and provide not only prayer but monetary support for this family,” said Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge.

Lt. Stiles said he is scheduled to meet with several doctors and face a major surgery in January.
