WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A unique form of hockey came to Hoggard High School Saturday morning.

The Hotwheels Power Wheelchair Hockey Team squared off against a team of wheelchair hockey players from the New Hanover County and City of Wilmington Fire Departments.

Brendan Hayes, a team coach, said the team was originally formed to give local kids with disabilities a chance to play hockey.

"When you're getting out there and you're playing hockey with a group of guys, your head's not thinking about any other problems," said Hayes.  "Whatever else is going on, you forget it and you're just playing for the guy next to you.  You're just trying to score a goal and have fun."
