A-State Women's Soccer Mitchell earns All-Tournament nod

The Sun Belt Conference has announced that Arkansas State women's soccer forward Loren Mitchell has been selected to the 2013 SBC All-Tournament Team.

The team was announced Sunday afternoon after the conclusion of the championship match and Mitchell is just the third player in the program's to earn the honor.

The sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., had the game-winning goal in the Red Wolves' 2-1 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in the opening round of the tournament this past week. Mitchell scored on a header in the 86th minute of the match to give A-State its first official victory in the SBC Tournament and send the Red Wolves to the semifinals for just the second time in school history.

The goal also had added significance for Mitchell, as it gave her 12 on the season which is tied for the most during a single season in Arkansas State history. It was also the sixth game-winning goal of her career which is tied for the second most in school in history.

Mitchell started in all 20 games this season and led the team in goals and points. Her 28 points were the third most in the Sun Belt this year and the most ever in a single season in A-State history. She also helped the Red Wolves win 21 games over the last two seasons which is the most in school history over any two-year span.
