HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Authorities are waiting for an autopsy report to come in after a drowning in the Lowcountry.

Officials say 86-year-old Lawrence Solvin was playing golf Sunday at the Country Club of Hilton Head when he went to retrieve a golf ball, lost his footing and fell into a pond.

The police report said Solvin's health issues made it difficult for him to bend over and pick the ball up, and as he tried to knock it to himself with his club, he lost his balance and fell in the pond.

A friend was able to pull Solvin out of the water, but said they could not revive him.

Beaufort County EMS responded to the scene and Solvin was pronounced dead on the scene.

The body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy.

According to the country club, this is the first time someone had drowned on the course playing golf.
