Downtown ice rink opens for second season in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The second season of the outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Spartanburg began on Friday.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, Morgan Square opened for its eight week season by becoming a winter wonderland with the outdoor rink. For the first two hours, it was free to skate.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday there was free caricature portraits and at 5:30 p.m. there was the official opening ceremonies.

The ceremonies included a performance by Meeting Street Academy students, the Greenville Figure Skating Club, and appearances Santa and other figures.

Skating on the Square will run through Jan. 5. It costs $10 to skate, which is good for all day and includes the skate rental.

The ice rink will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The rink is located on the Square, which is between Church, Dunbar and West Main streets.
