JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro police have determined the identity of a man who was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a freight train.

The accident occured just before 10:30 a.m. when 47-year-old Johnny Roberts was struck by a passing westbound Burlington Northern-Santa Fe freight at the Fisher Street crossing.  The train was reportedly traveling at a speed of approximately 10 miles per hour.

Police say the victim was on his hands and knees underneath a parked train, and as he began to crawl from underneath the train, he was struck and killed by the passing train, which was on adjacent tracks.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Craighead County Coroner Toby Emerson.
