MILFORD, TX (KLTV) - A drilling crew punctured a gas pipeline in North Texas and triggered an explosion that led emergency personnel to evacuate a nearby town.

Right after the explosion, black smoke could be seen pouring hundreds of feet into the air and flames jumped stories high. Some vehicles at the worksite were reportedly burned.

The explosion occurred near Farm to Market Road 308. Officials told WFAA in Dallas that the line was closed off and crews are waiting for the fire to burn out.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office says the explosion Thursday morning involves a Chevron pipeline. Chevron spokesman Justin Higgs says the accident involves a liquefied petroleum gas pipeline.

Milford volunteer fire chief Mark Jackson said a 10-inch pipe broke and about 200 students in the Milford Independent School District were evacuated to the nearby town of Italy.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jo Ann Livingston says authorities have not received any word of injuries. Deputies went door-to-door in Milford advising residents to leave.

Milford, a town of about 700 people, is located about 14 miles northeast of Hillsboro and 50 miles south of Dallas.
