Authorities investigating after bone fragments found inside burnt home

Posted: Updated:
DUNKLIN COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

The state fire marshal's office is investigating after bone fragments were found inside a burnt home.

Around noon on Wednesday, the Dunklin County Sheriffs' office was notified of a house fire that happened in the late evening hours or the early morning hours of Nov. 12-13.

The home is located at 2745 County Road 645. The Dunklin County Sheriff's Office and the Hornersville Police Department investigated.

Deputies say the home and a vehicle had been destroyed by fire. A relative of the homeowner had gone to the residence to light the pilot light to the stove and had not been heard from since leaving his home in Paragould, Arkansas and going to the Dunklin Co. home.

The Missouri Fire Marshal was contacted to investigate after authorities contacted family members and were unable to contact the victim.

The Hornersville Fire Department, Kennett Fire Department, Senath Fire Department and members of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety were contacted to assist in going through the fire ruins in an attempt to find the man who may have been inside the residence during the fire.

During the search there were bone fragments found around the area of the heating stove.

The bone fragments were collected and turned over to the Dunklin County Coroner's Office who will try and make identification of the fragments.

The investigation is continuing by the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office.
