Labor violations alleged at Bono haunted house

Posted: Updated:

BONO, AR (AP) - The owner of a haunted house where two teenagers were seriously burned now faces multiple violations from the Arkansas Department of Labor.

The Jonesboro Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1bA2HhO ) that Cody Russell is accused of 38 violations of Arkansas child labor laws and 45 minimum-wage violations. Officials say they began investigating after Russell told the newspaper last month that the teens who were burned in the fire were working as volunteers at his Nightmare Productions Haunted House.

The Labor Department found that those volunteers should have been subject to the state's minimum wage and overtime laws. Russell declined to comment on the alleged violations.

Two teens suffered burns Oct. 19 when an adult employee poured paint thinner into a burning barrel, causing an explosion. No criminal charges were filed against the worker.
