Spurrier, No. 11 Gamecocks set to host Florida

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is tired of talking about his time at Florida.

Spurrier won the Heisman Trophy as Florida's quarterback in 1966 and coached his alma mater to a national championship 30 years later. But Spurrier has coached the Gamecocks the past nine seasons and believes it's long past time for the focus to shift off him and onto the field when the Southeastern Conference rivals play.

Spurrier wondered this week if former Georgia coach Vince Dooley was asked about his alma mater - Auburn - whenever those teams played.

Still, it's hard to keep Spurrier's past in the shadows, especially when a win by the Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) would push Florida (4-5, 3-4) closer to missing the postseason for the first time since he coached there.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
