Paragould man convicted of rape

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – A Paragould man will spend the rest of his life in prison.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington, Terry Allen Dowdy was convicted of rape and sexual assault. He was sentenced to two life sentences plus 78 years in prison.

Ellington says he was charged after a teenage girl came forward saying he had raped her over the course of three years. During his trial, several other victims came forward accusing him of rape, as well.

Dowdy was charged with two counts of rape, three counts of second degree sexual assault and three counts of sexual indecency with a child.

"Today's verdict takes a monster out of our community and places him behind bars where he belongs," Ellington said. "If a person chooses to violate the innocence of a child, just like Mr. Dowdy, they will pay the consequences."
