From Arkansas State University
Arkansas State running back Michael Gordon was recognized by both the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) and College Sports Madness with one of their weekly honors after the sophomore standout helped lead the Red Wolves to a 38-21 victory over Texas State last Saturday.
Gordon was recognized by the CFPA for the third time this season, earning national Honorable Mention Running Back of the Week accolades. College Sports Madness named Gordon its Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.
The Camden, Miss. native rushed for a career-high 184 yards and three touchdowns against a Texas State team that entered the game ranked 12th in the nation in rushing defense. Gordon's 184 yards were the second most this season by a Sun Belt Conference player and the seventh most ever by an A-State player at Liberty Bank Stadium.
He recorded just 19 rushing attempts for a 9.7 average per carry and had a long run of 40 yards, which went for a touchdown that tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter. He also scored on a nine-yard run and a 16-yard rush, which gave Arkansas State its first lead of the game at 28-21 midway through the third quarter. His three rushing touchdowns matched his career high, originally set the week prior against ULM.
