WBC Men's Basketball falls in overtime to JBU, travels to Blue Mountain College Tuesday night

The Williams Baptist College men's basketball team did not surrender a lead until overtime against John Brown University.  Once the Golden Eagles seized the lead,they never looked back, winning by a final score of 102-99.  The contest was played Saturday evening at Walnut Ridge.

This was the second straight overtime loss for the Williams basketball squad, with both defeats coming against undefeated teams. JBU is currently ranked 14th in the NAIA Division I men's basketball poll with a record of 7-0.

The Eagles started the game on a frantic 9-0 run, forcing the Golden Eagles to take an early timeout two minutes into the contest. WBC held a 47-39 lead at the half and a one point lead with no time remaining on the clock in the second half.

Williams forward Kevin Charles fouled Austin Freet as he was attempting a shot before the buzzer. Freet missed the first free throw, but made the second to send the game into overtime with a 91-91 score.

JBU outscored WBC 11-8 in overtime for the victory.

James McClain posted a team high 25 points and 14 rebounds. Charles finished with 24 points, E.J. Rucker added 19 points and Chris Price rounded out the scoring with 10 points for Williams. Gilbert Gyamfi finished with a game high 27 points for John Brown.

The squad is 3-2 on the season. Its next contest is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, against Blue Mountain College. The contest is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start in New Albany, Miss. WBC previously defeated Blue Mountain on November 9 by a final score of 94-88, when the teams met at Walnut Ridge.

The next scheduled home game is the start of American Midwest Conference play, when the 21st ranked Pirates of Park University come to Walnut Ridge on December 5th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
