INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (11/19/13) – Arkansas State University's Kristina Aubert has qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championships, which are to be held this Saturday (Nov. 23) in Terre Haute, Ind., in an announcement made by the NCAA-I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.
The 2013 NCAA Division I Championship meet will take place on the LaVern GibsonChampionship Cross Country course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Centerwith the women's race starting at approximately 12:15 p.m. (CT). A live webcast of the 2013 NCAA-I Championships will be broadcast from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CT) on NCAA.com.
A redshirt junior, Aubert was one of 38 individual runners selected for participation in the national championship meet through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 within their respective region. Besides Aubert, the South Central Region will be represented by Marielle Hall of Texas, Baylor's Rachel Johnson, Hillary Montgomery of Texas A&M, and Central Arkansas' Brooke Cassar.
Aubert qualified for nationals as a result of finishing a team-leading fourth place at the 2013 NCAA South Central Regional Championships last Friday (Nov. 15) inWaco, Texas, with a season-best tying 20:20.0 time on the 6K Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The two-time (2012-13) All-Sun Belt Conference (SBC) First-Team selection and the 2013 conference meet medalist played a key role in leading the Red Wolves to a program-record eighth-place showing at the regional meet with 225 points in the 20-team field.
Aubert's appearance in the upcoming NCAA Championships will mark her second year in a row after becoming the first-ever women's runner at Arkansas State to compete at nationals last season. Aubert would place 124th of 253 runners in the 2012 NCAA-I Championships (Nov. 17) at Louisville, Ky., by clocking a 20:56.3 time.
