HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Laurel organization which feeds and supplies some clothing to needy families hosted an annual, early holiday meal for the community Tuesday. The folks at the Good Samaritan Center provided a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for hundreds of people at their soup kitchen on Ellisville Boulevard.

About 500 meals were prepared and served by several dozen volunteers.

"Well, a lot of people need it and we're trying to make sure that everybody has a nice, warm meal, hot meal today," said Terrence Crosby, director of the Good Samaritan Center.

"We thank God for those folks," said Mona Lisa Payton of Laurel, one of the people who enjoyed the food.  "If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have a meal to eat and I'm for real from the bottom of my heart. We thank God for them," she said.

"It makes me feel good, because I did something good for other people," said Elizabeth Sullivan, a 7th grade volunteer who helped serve the meals.

The Good Samaritan Center serves lunch five days a week and has been hosting its Thanksgiving dinner for more than 20 years.
