DEXTER, MO (KAIT)—Two Region 8 women were seriously injured when their SUV slammed into a car that had run out of gas.
The crash happened at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 60, half mile east of Dexter.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Stephen Mitchell's 2004 Buick ran out of gas and was stopped in the driving lane when a 2011 Ford Escape driven by Marla S. Corlew, 65, slammed into the rear.
Two passengers in Corlew's SUV, 85-year-old Doris Hoopingarner of Dexter and 63-year-old Rita Wilcoxon of Poplar Bluff, were both air evacuated to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Corlew suffered minor injuries.
Mitchell was not hurt.
