On Tuesday, a nurse lost her life after she was attacked at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. Gail Sandidge was doing what she loved - taking care of patients - when she allegedly was fatally stabbed by 22-year-old Kyron Templeton.

Sandidge's sister, Debbie Pritchett, says Gail was a compassionate Christian woman who knew nursing was her calling.

"From the time she was about 7 years old she knew she wanted to be a nurse," said Pritchett. I think a lot of it goes back to living in a very dysfunctional household growing up and holding my baby brother before he passed on the way to the hospital and I think at that young age, that was something that she wanted to be was a care giver."

Sandidge was a caregiver to hundreds who walked in and out of the doors of Good Shepherd Medical Center. She was also a caregiver to her children and grandchildren. Her sister says Gail has another grandchild on the way.

her sister says Gail was also a hard worker, putting herself through nursing school while working 40 hours a week.

We often talked about, anybody could get through nursing school but not anybody could be a good nurse," remembered Pritchett. "She was a good nurse."

A good nurse who Pritchett says, would want the good nurses around her to keep on giving.

"I know a lot of the people that she works with, Jackie and Trudy. That's what she'd tell them. 'Hang in there and keep on doing what you do best and that's taking care of the people that need it.'"
