DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

A man accused of robbing a pharmacy in Cape Girardeau is believed to be the same suspect in two armed robberies in Dexter.

Bryan D. Ward, 23, of Cape Girardeau is charged with class A felony pharmacy robbery in the first degree and felony armed criminal action. He was being held on a $250,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement, Ward handed pharmacy staff at the Cape Girardeau Walgreens a yellow piece of paper and instructed them to “read it and not to say anything” around 8 a.m. Monday. Staff told police the yellow piece of paper said that it was a robbery and he wanted Percocet and Hydrocodone. Employees gave the suspect a Walgreen’s bag with one opened bottle of Oxycodone.

The note said: "No one will be hurt do as I say. This is a robbery! Stay calm I will not hurt you. I have a gun. Please be cool and don’t make me use it or get smart and make me bad. Give me the all pain pills – Percocet and Hydro.”

He told employees he wanted to leave through the back door, but staff told him the alarm would sound if the door was opened and they did not wish to be shot because of the alarm sounding, according to the probable cause statement. The suspect left through the front of the business and was seen getting in to a black passenger car and drive away toward Schnucks.

Police developed Ward as a suspect after a call to check on his welfare. Police say he had been making suicidal threats in the past week and could not be found at the time.

After Ward was arrested, he told police he left a Poplar Bluff motel early Monday morning and stopped in Dexter at the Break Time Convenience Store at 302 W US Business 60 and Murphy Oil USA at 2027 W US Business 60. He told police he had a 9-mm automatic handgun and a yellow store bag in both robberies. Police say he took money from both stores.

Police found $1,022 in cash, 278 Oxycodone pills, and a 9-mm handgun in Ward's car when he was arrested at Dexter BBQ in Cape Girardeau.

There were no injuries were reported in any of the robberies.

The Cape Girardeau and Dexter police departments worked together to investigate. The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted the Cape Girardeau Police Department in the arrest of the suspect.
