Winter weather wipes out weekend tournament slate

JONESBORO (KAIT) - Mother Nature is planning to drop a triple double of wind, precipitation, and chill this weekend. The upcoming winter storm has postponed or cancelled high school tournaments all over Northeast Arkansas.

The 29th Barry Pruitt Hurricane Classic was scheduled to tip off today at Jonesboro High, but the tournament has been cancelled. I talked to JHS athletic director David Daniel on the phone this morning. He told me that he and head coach Wes Swift will get together to discuss alternate options. One of those could be an event for the NEA teams that were in the Hurricane field.

Nettleton was scheduled to play Rivercrest today at 4pm in the Greyhound Classic semifinals. The tournament in Newport has been postponed, no makeup date has been set yet.

Championships were going to be decided today in the Girls Pre-Holiday Tournament. But the finals in Bay have been postponed until Saturday, December 14th. Westside will play Harrisburg in the junior final at 6:00pm. Brookland will face the Lady Hornets in the senior final at 7:15pm.

The West Memphis Classic was scheduled to tipoff Friday, but that tournament is also postponed. No makeup date has been set for the event at Lehr Arena.
