JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Louisiana-Lafayette fell to South Alabama 30-8 on Saturday night, bringing to an end the Sun Belt Conference season, but bringing with it another Sun Belt Championship for Arkansas State.
The Ragin' Cajuns held the Sun Belt Conference lead for much of the season but faltered in the final two games as they lost quarterback Terrance Broadway to injury. The loss gives Arkansas State their 3rd Sun Belt Conference Title in as many years.
Jonesboro has seen titles in three consecutive seasons despite losing 3 coaches after only one season and starting this season with a first year head coach and brand new quarterback after losing record-setting QB Ryan Aplin to graduation.
Along with Troy and North Texas, ASU is now the third team in conference history to share at least three conference championships back to back.
In the last three seasons, A-State has been able to set a 20-3 Sun Belt Conference record for a .869 winning percentage.
The Red Wolves will try to add GoDaddy Bowl champs to their resume for 2013.
A-State will learn soon who they will face for the GoDaddy Bowl from the Mid-American Conference. The bowl will be played on January 5.
