INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An Indianapolis family is in mourning after a 3-year-old accidentally shot and killed himself.

Police say around 6 p.m. on Saturday they received a 911 call saying a gun went off and a child was hit. They responded to find the 3-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children where he was later pronounced dead.

"It's one of those things where you don't want to take that call, you don't want to respond to something like this. Decent people..your heart breaks for something like this. Especially during this time of year," said Officer Chris Wilburn, Indianapolis Metro Police Department.
