JONESBORO (KAIT) - As of 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the rumors were running rampant around Jonesboro and Boise about the current status of Boise State's Head Coaching position and the status of Arkansas State head coach Bryan Harsin and his involvement in the search.
Tuesday started with several media outlets reporting the Falcons Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter was the favorite to get the head coaching position at Boise State. As the day wore on there was no more clarity on these reports but at around 3:30 on Tuesday afternoon a source told Region 8's Blake Guinn that Harsin was no longer a candidate and Koetter was indeed the frontrunner in the race. Several media outlets in Boise also reported Harsin's exit from the search. But, as time wore on and more conflicting reports came in from sources on the ground in Boise, it can be safely assumed that Harsin is still in the hunt for the job. Typically, when a candidate exits a race, the school or the coach will issue some sort of statement. Arkansas State and Bryan Harsin have yet to do that.
Another candidate that seems to be a little bit of a mystery is Washington Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox. It is believed Wilcox has interviewed for the position and cannot be counted out as a candidate for the spot.
Also developing Tuesday afternoon, former California Head Coach Jeff Tedford emerged as a possible candidate from several reports but according CBS's Bruce Feldman, it appeared that information was also cloudy and Tedford was not a candidate.
As you can clearly see, the information coming from Boise is very cloudy and filled with bad information. The possible solution will be for one of the universities involved to make a release. It is thought that Boise State will make a decision on their next head coach at some point on Wednesday.
The Region 8 Sports team is working hard to sort out the mess that is this coaching search and will bring you the clearest information possible when it becomes available.
