Second graders help give Christmas to family in need

At the Newburgh Walmart, 44 second graders from St. John the Baptist School spent Wednesday morning picking out gifts for a local family.

The students raised over $1,500 to spend on a family of seven for this years Giving Project. The students were asked to donate or collect $4 each, but most ended up giving much more.

"I think they will be quite surprised to see how much we've put in to this and how great of a job our school did in helping to provide a Christmas for this family," teacher Jennie Schmitt said.

The entire school joined together for a wrapping party on Wednesday afternoon so the family could pick up the gifts.
