SUV hits Zoo sign, Lufkin PD looking for 18-wheeler

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police are currently looking for an 18-wheeler after it forced a SUV off the road, causing it to crash into the entrance sign at the Ellen Trout Zoo.

According to patrol officer Devin Trotti, an off-duty officer that was on scene after the incident said  an 18-wheeler turned north onto Loop 287 from MLK Blvd and did not yield to the black Chevrolet Trailblazer. The driver of the Trailblazer swerved out of the way, left the road, and crashed through a stop sign and street light before hitting the sign.

No one in the Trailblazer was hurt.

"According to the off-duty officer, the 18-wheeler stopped briefly on the shoulder and then took off without rendering aid," Trotti said.

At this time, Lufkin police are interviewing two other witnesses and talking to nearby businesses to determine who the truck may have belonged to.
