First Lawsuit Filed in Fatal Bus Crash

CHICAGO - The first lawsuit in the bus accident that killed 14 people was filed today in Chicago.

The wrongful death lawsuit was filed by McKinley Jacobs on behalf of his wife, 68-year-old Fannie Jacobs.  She was killed in the bus crash on Saturday.

Listed as defendants in the lawsuit are Roosevelt Walters, his bus company and his brother, Herbert Walters.  Herbert Walters was driving the bus at the time of the accident and he was also killed.

An attorney for Walters' bus company, Elliot Price today said he would not comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000.

Thirty people were on the bus when it left the road on Interstate-55 in northeast Arkansas.  Sixteen people survived the crash and at least two remain in critical condition.

    According to Jackson County Sheriff's Captain Ricky Morales, 40-year-old Rickey D. Crawford Jr., of Tuckerman, was arrested in relation to the death of 33-year-old Amanda Michelle Crawford.
