Should Missouri change its marijuana laws?

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

Should Missouri change its marijuana laws?

That was the question asked at a roundtable discussion in Poplar Bluff Thursday night.

Panel members, taking the position of reform, argue that cannabis could be a cash crop, not just for medicinal or recreational use, but also for products like textiles and fuel.

Panel experts defending the status quo say those benefits do not outweigh the damage the drug does to users.

The event's host welcomes the discussion.

"Even if people are opposed to what we're advocating, we want them to be there and talk about the issue," said host John Payne, with Show-Me Cannabis. "I think it makes the debate a little more legitimate. It's not just one side they were able to hear tonight.they could hear both sides."

More than 100 people attended and Show Me Cannabis leaders say they hope to get the issue on a ballot soon.
