Seventh suspect arrested, mother issued summons in rape of 12-year-old

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A seventh arrest has been made in connection to the investigation of a 12-year-old girl being raped over a period of time.

Deputies issued a warrant on Friday for 39-year-old Jerome Jackson. Jackson was taken into custody by the Port Allen Police Department. He has been charged with Aggravated Rape for an incident that allegedly occurred in early November 2013.

The child's mother has also been issued a summons for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.

EBRSO Spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks reports that the mother's identity will not be released in order to protect the identity of the child.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office detectives have been closely working with Child Protective Services to ensure the child's safety. The investigation is still ongoing.

Just earlier in the week, deputies located and arrested the wanted suspect, 22-year-old Jessica D. Carr, in connection to the rape case.

Deputies were on the search for Carr after she was identified as the sixth suspect accused, in a probable cause report, of participating in sexual acts with a 12-year-old.

Police said the victim was raped several times, dating back to this summer.

Five men are still behind bars in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and West Baton Rouge Parish Prison, charged with sex crimes. Carr is now also arrested by EBRSO and is charged with aggravated rape as well.

Last week, investigators charged Ivy Martin, 38, with multiple counts of aggravated rape.

The aggravated rape by Carr, according to reports, happened in September 2013. The probable cause report from EBRSO says Ivy Martin and Carr both participated in sexual acts with the 12-year-old.

Deputies made several attempts to contact Carr, but were unsuccessful. They finally received information that Carr was at a residence off of Denham Street. She was taken into custody and booked.

Earlier this week, four more arrests were made in connection to the case. According to a probable cause report from EBRSO, Michael Sherbin of Baton Rouge told investigators he had sex with the girl as well in July, immediately after watching Martin have sex with the victim.

Another report stated the victim reported Arthur Lee Jones of Baker had sex with her immediately after Martin in October. The report added Jones also told police he knew that Martin allowed other men to have sex with the victim but he failed to do anything about it.

The latest arrests Tuesday, according to a Port Allen Police Department document, involved Clarence Tillman, 60, who is charged with witnessing a rape and sexual assault about eight months ago. Brandon Edwards, 26, was initially charged with sexual battery, but his charge has been upgraded to aggravated rape. The report says both Martin and Edwards had sexual contact with the child during this instance.

Martin is still being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison without bond. Jones and Sherbin are being held there as well. They remain locked up on $1 million bond each.

Tillman is being held in the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison on $10,000 bond. Edwards remains behind bars there as well on a $50,000 bond.
