Local veterans come together to help their own

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Veterans who are spending their days in nursing homes are getting an annual highlight from some of their very own counterparts.

The Disabled American Veterans chapter in Jonesboro came together Saturday to make baskets for those veterans.

Billy Cribbs is the commander of DAV chapter 26 and said that they deliver these baskets every year right before Christmas. This year they are giving out 135 baskets; this is compared to 120 last year.

Cribbs said the veterans look forward to this every year, and he hopes to keep the tradition going.

"We call the nursing homes and ask how many veterans do you have there and they tell us and the veterans are expecting these and it just light them up and we can't quit doing this," said Cribbs. "It's just a really good thing."

All supplies were donated by local grocery stores, the Bono sewing club, and the Holy Angels Convent.
