TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa Police say a person falsely reported a shooting at an apartment.

Chief Steve Anderson says that a person who claimed someone else had "shot up" an apartment at the Stone Creek Apartments made up the story. They say the caller told dispatchers that one or more persons forced their way into an apartment and fired a gun.

Police, deputies and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue responded to the scene. They were told the shooters may have barricaded themselves in an apartment.

Anderson says the person who called in the alleged crime may have been under mental stress and is being evaluated.

SWAT from the Tuscaloosa Police and Sheriff's departments responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Reporter Kelvin Reynolds says the officers were clearing the scene by 5 p.m.

Police have not said at this point if the caller will be charged with a crime.
