West Memphis Cops Appear in Tennessee Court to Face Charges from Shooting

OCTOBER 13, 2004 - Posted at 7:45 a.m. CDT

MEMPHIS, TN - Three West Memphis police officers have made brief court appearances across the Mississippi River in Memphis, where they are accused in the shooting of a passenger in a fleeing car.

Kelly Anne Allen was shot in the head on July 18 after officers Vance Plumhoff, Tony Galtelli and John Gardner chased a car from West Memphis across the river and into Memphis.

The officers say that happened after the driver drove off from a traffic stop and tried to ram a police car.

That driver was Donald Rickard.  No charges have been filed in his death.

Plumhoff, Galtelli and Gardner are charged with reckless homicide in the death of Allen.
