Two 21-year-old killers will spend 30 years in prison for their crimes.

Madison County Judge Karen Hall handed down the sentences on Wednesday morning. Both sentences came down an hour apart.

A jury previously found Sheldon Henry and Henry Varise guilty of murder and assault charges. Henry and Varise, both 21, shot and killed Christopher Collier on Halloween night in 2011. A second person was wounded in the shooting at the Showers Center.

Prosecutors said Henry fired the fatal shot, but Varise picked up an AK-47 prior to the Showers Center shooting. AK-47 casings were found at the murder scene.

Judge Hall sentenced both Henry and Varise to 30 years for the murder conviction and 10 years for the assault conviction. Both sentences run concurrently.

"I do think what you did is inexcusable. I think to a certain extent was based on immaturity. It was life altering," said Judge Hall when sentencing Sheldon Henry.

Henry apologized to the Collier family before the sentence. He remained silent while the judge read his sentence.

Varise's mom asked the judge for leniency before Judge Hall sentenced the 21-year-old. She said her son did not fire the fatal shot. Varise did speak to the victims families prior to his sentencing.

"I do apologize that Chris was killed. I didn't kill him," said Varise. "I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me."

Judge Hall said she felt both defendants deserved the same punishment when she sentenced Varise.

"As a result of your poor decisions someone died," said Judge Hall as Varise stood in front of her.
