Blake Anderson introduced as new ASU head football coach

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Blake Anderson has been announced as Arkansas State University's new head football coach.

Athletic Director Terry Mohajir made the announcement on social media Thursday morning saying in part:

"I'm excited to announce Blake Anderson as our new head football coach!  More details coming soon..."

At a news conference Thursday afternoon at the ASU Convocation Center, Mohajir said he was pleased with the new hire, and proud of the support from Red Wolf football fans.

Anderson signed a five year contract, which sets pay at $700,000 each season. There is a $3-million buyout in years one and two, $2-million buyout in years three and four, and a $1-million buyout in year five.

"I want to be equally involved on defense. I will coach on special teams. I'll be as involved in all three (phases of the game) as I can," said Anderson.

The former North Carolina offensive coordinator interviewed for the job on Sunday. Anderson also had stops at Southern Mississippi, Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee.

Anderson continues the theme of offensive minded head coaches. He said his style is similar to former head coaches Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn.

"We will be the most physical, violent team in the Sun Belt. We will be fun to watch. You will never be bored if you come to a game," said Anderson.
2013 marked Anderson's second season as North Carolina's offensive coordinator. Last year, Anderson's offense established more than 35 school records in 2012 including most points, most points per game and total offense.

Interim Head Coach John Thompson will coach the Red Wolves in the GoDaddy Bowl January 5th.
